Wednesday -- Reflections at the End of the Day

A group of teens awaited today's sunrise over the City so that they could begin their work spreading the Son in the City.

As you will see by the several blog posts that follow, we closed our work crew week with a blitz of activity and flurry of projects being wrapped up. Today was a very good day but it was as the third of three long days. Our team finished strong and without complaint. I can’t say enough about this group of teens – their hard work, positive attitude, willingness to sacrifice their own needs and desires to that of the team and more importantly the good of the children we serve has been exemplary. I think every adult on the trip would join with me in saying, we’re proud to have served with this team of teens. We hope that families, church family and friends share in that pride because you’ve all played a part in making these teens the amazing people they are and are becoming.

Having said that – Wednesdays are typically the hardest day of the week each year. We hit the ground running when we arrive. Monday all of the work crew assignments are new. Tuesday we fall into a routine and things flow like clock work. Wednesday we’re beginning to tire and with the end in sight there is a danger that we will coast to the finish rather than running through the finishing line and ending on a high note.

This year. We finished strong. With God and your prayers lifting, encouraging and empowering us, we not only built a house in three days, but we also remodeled a porch, completed a three-day puppet and craft program and wrapped up a four-part miniseries that we humbly refer to as a skit. We also held men’s and women’s classes, teen Bible classes and testimonials, created crafty treats for the kids, launched rockets, played camp-style games, bused tables, scrubbed pots, prepared and cleaned up after meals, began each day with a devotional, took out the trash and refrained from flushing toilet paper down the commode [ask your teen about this delicate subject]. All 68 team members were fully engaged because our team extends beyond 68 with so many people at home lifting us up. So thank you. Wednesday is in the books. So what follows this post will be posts of pictures in each of the areas I’ve mentioned here with words only where they’re needed to offer context.

It was a good day. It’s been a good trip. God is good. All the time and in every culture
