Last year our team remodeled the living room of the teen girl's dorm here at the City of Children. Different groups are redoing and updating various dorms throughout the campus. This year we're again working on the teen girl's dorm, updating the front porch and adding a bench to the gazebo that''s already there. This project is being led by Daisy, Melissa Skidmore and Madison Shea with the able assistance of Thad McKellar and Edwin Whillhite as well as the help of so many others on the team. It's a rewarding project because the girl's take such obvious pride in their home. The teen years can be a challenging time as it is and a pleasing, comfortable, safe place to call home, a place to live and grow is just one small way of easing the pressure and letting them know we care. The far more difficult job is the one that the dorm parents fulfill day in and day out. Anything we can do to help the dorm parents in their very difficult but extremely important work, we feel compelled to do.
This isn't just an extreme makeover and a race against time to get the ambitious project time before we leave. It's an extreme makeover of our souls as we are treated to the teen girls peeking in to see the progress and lending a hand whenever they can. We're not building a new porch, but new bonds of friendship and community in Christ. We'll keep you posted to let you know how we're doing to beat the clock. Right now...we're a little worried.
Thanks to all of those who contributed to this wonderful project with donations of resources, lending a hand here at the City and all of you who attended events created by Daisy and Madison and other of our teens to raise money for this project. Your resources are blessing the lives of these girls. Or, as one person said during one of our nightly devotionals, this isn't about projects. It's about people. Lord knows.
