| The NBYG's very own Wonder Women help raise the roof on another house in Mexico. |
Day Two on the house site saw nearly
all of the house completed. We still have doors and windows to put into place and a few finishing touches
but everything is coming along and we'll be ready to hand over the keys to the new owner on Thursday morning.
Everything is going so well, in fact, that there was time for a
little house-warming party. With a twist. We didn’t throw it to welcome the
woman that will move in. Her family threw it for us. The mama prepared homemade
tamales for all of the workers and had enough left over that she sent them back
for others on our team to enjoy. I love how God and the people here continually
turn things around. We who have come to teach are the students. We who have
come to build a house are made to feel at home. We who have come to serve are,
in turn, served. The difference is this. We give out of our abundance. The
people give out of their scarcity. So who has truly offered the greater
service? It’s very humbling and encouraging. We came to serve others and in the
process have discovered brothers and sisters in Christ ready to give to
us.
So much happens here to fill our minds, bodies and souls.
Without the distractions, without the focus on our own needs, we are treated to
sights and signs of God at every turn. It’s not that he isn’t with us at home
in America, it’s not Him who changes. It’s us. Our eyes are open here instead
of drawn away from what’s really important. Our as Jesus might say, “He who has
eyes to see. Let them see.”
We came to build a house for a Mexican family. In the
process, their joy and hospitality and trust in God have served to build our
faith. Their work will far outlast ours. Lord knows.
A note about the woman who will own the house. She is the
daughter of the family on whose land the house is being constructed. Her name
is Estefania. She’s getting a degree in Psychology. Please join us in prayer
for this family -- our brother and sister in Christ, their daughter's future and blessings on all who enter this
house.
