Wednesday -- Teens Speaking to Teens from the Heart

We've continued a NBYG tradition of having our teens speaking to the Mexican teens instead of classes led by the adults. Exposure to the scripture isn't so much the challenge at a home where every year the children participate in a summerlong VBS and every Sunday they assemble for church. It's living as a Christian in a world and among school mates whose values don't match up with yours. It's overcoming personal spiritual challenges. It's disappointing God and wanting to reclaim the assurance and knowledge of His unconditional love. It's wondering if He's really there or if He really cares when you find yourself in a situation not of your own making. Our teens speak to teens about the challenges only teens truly understand. They speak from the heart and that is the most powerful of languages and universally understood.

Today Mark Blackmon and Rebeca Martinez spoke to the teens. Rebeca is new to many in our group. She was part of a missionary family in Honduras led by her father Carlos Martinez that North Boulevard supported for many years. Her father lost his battle with cancer. Rebeca is now a student at Harding and was a wonderful servant with us this week. Though often quiet and reserved, she offered her amazing testimony today and her service all week long has spoken volumes. If you're curious about what Ben or Rebeca shared with the teens ask your teen who was on the trip and give them the opportunity to share a special moment.

In addition to the testimony the teen girls were taught and encouraged to express themselves in their own personal journaling study Bibles. It's a great exercise in internalizing the scripture and expressing your heart and response to God's word. Can you ever go wrong when the focus is highlighting and focusing on God's word?
